No, I haven't skipped ahead to Easter. I'm talking Egg Bowl, baby. Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State. Rivalry football at some of its finest. I grew up an Ole Miss fan, and I graduated from Ole Miss so I've attended my fair share of Egg Bowl games. The one that I will never, ever forget occurred on Seth's very first Thanksgiving. It was one of those occasions where they actually played the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving night to be exact. We stuffed our little 10 month old Sethers into three layers of clothing to combat the thirty degree forecast and hauled his tiny hinny up to the very tippy top row of Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville. There with us were Robert's parents and his brother. Said brother is a Mississippi State graduate and with Robert being an Ole Miss graduate, there was no shortage of rivalry at that game, even all the way up there on that tippy top row. Naturally. Robert's poor parents claimed neutrality, we all passed Seth back and forth, and I even looked the other way when Uncle Wesley tried to hand Seth a cowbell (for the record, he wouldn't hold it). At some point after halftime, my little rebel fell asleep. Thank. Goodness. Because that game ended in disaster for Ole Miss, and I took solace in the fact that Seth didn't have to see it. State forced Bo Wallace to fumble the ball in the end zone, in overtime, on what would have been a game tying touchdown. I felt sick. But it was a glorious moment for my favorite State fan, and well, that's the Egg Bowl for ya! Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving and rooting especially for anyone and everyone in a House Divided!
