My friend Lauren is a certified personal trainer, and I subscribe to her newsletter. A while back one of them had this quote in it from The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. "You haven't failed until you stop trying." I jotted it down, and it has been a gentle reminder for me on the days- wait, scratch that- weeks that my paintbrushes have gone untouched, haunting me from a shelf while both the joy and chaos of looking after two little boys has unfolded non-stop all around me. I'm almost even too embarrassed to continue posting paintings from my Memphis Alphabet series. It's been so long since I started. I should have finished this series like, oh I dunno... two years ago. There are only 26 letters in the alphabet. Geeeez!!!! Seriously, y'all. I'm ashamed of myself. BUT! I'm still trying. And apparently that's something. So here we go... X is for FedEx. Ok, ok. So technically FedEx starts with F. Meh. Do you know what does start with X? Xylophone. It's in all of Seth's alphabet books and on his alphabet flashcards, and it doesn't even make the "x" sound. It sounds like a "z". How confusing is that? Not to worry, dear children! In my alphabet series X is for FedEx. It doesn't get any X-ier than that. Quick explanation for any non-Memphians reading this- FedEx is headquartered here in Memphis. It's huge. Just about everybody knows somebody who works there in one way or another. And while I'm already breaking alphabet protocol, Q is for Bar-B-Q. If I was on Family Feud and Steve Harvey asked me to name something you'd find in Memphis, Tennessee I'd shout out, "Barbeque, Steve!" and then everyone would clap and holler "Good answer, good answer!" while it showed up on the board and made that pleasant DING sound. It might even be the number one answer. Maybe I should survey 100 people just to see...
Now, just 11 letters left to go. Whatever is on your back burner, keep trying! And hey, if eating healthier happens to be it, check out Lauren's Clean Eating Challenge on Facebook. It's FREE! Just four days. Starts Monday. I'll be there too. Go for it!
